“Small Torx screw” is not a specification. Record the mating interface and the head as well as the tool size.
A useful specification sheet
| Field | Why record it |
|---|---|
| Thread diameter and pitch | The screw must match the receiving thread. |
| Effective length | Include the relevant bearing surface and shoulder details; a stated overall length may use another convention. |
| Head diameter and profile | The head must suit the recess and adjacent components. |
| Drive | Record the stated drive type and size separately from the thread. |
| Position and quantity | Body, clip and pivot hardware are separate applications. |
Avoid visual substitutions
Do not infer thread pitch or alloy from a photograph. A finish name does not identify the substrate. Compare the selected supplier specification and retain the source.
No universal torque value
This guide does not prescribe a torque value or thread treatment. Follow guidance appropriate to the exact component and knife; do not force a mismatched thread.
